Homeschooling with a Tutor as a Guide

How does it work?

EPIC Tutoring will walk you through the process of registering with the state to homeschool your student. Together, we will make a plan for the school year—from curriculum selection guidance to course planning. We will set clear milestones transparent to both parents and students to stay on track and cover all the curriculum necessary to ensure your child’s education meets and exceeds state requirements.

The tutoring frequency and time required to ensure success varies from student to student. In general, you can expect your student to spend a similar amount of time on schooling at home as he or she would on campus. The difference and value which EPIC Tutoring adds is the personalization and approach to your student’s learning style. For independent learners, we can be a “pacing consultant” where we meet on a monthly basis to ensure that the academic milestones are being met. For those that require more structure, we can meet daily to ensure comprehension of each subject.

Ultimately, we want to find the best rhythm for your student to achieve his or her very best in whatever structure you desire.

What would it cost?

For individuals, we offer our popular “pay as you go” rates. We also offer bulk discounts paid in advance of 10% off for 10 hours and 20% off for 20 hours.

A great way to make private teaching more financially feasible is to organize a group of students who are learning the same material. The students can also help keep each other accountable and get some much-needed social interaction. Group rates vary depending on the number of students and services desired by the group. Even small groups can provide substantial savings over one on one tutoring for the same services due to scale.

Is private teaching right for my family?

There are pros and cons to private teaching, as there are with any education option. A big advantage is safe, personalized learning that avoids the bureaucracy of the school system as they (understandably) struggle to figure out how they can best approach the 2020-2021 school year as well as traverse this unprecedented crisis. Some disadvantages are a lack of social networking and extracurricular participation which are both critical in developing “soft skills” and exploring interests. As always, EPIC Tutoring is happy to work with your student within his or her existing school system as well, but in an effort to be as supportive as possible to families who are anxiously looking toward the upcoming school year, we want to communicate these additional and novel services.

We’d be happy to discuss your family’s needs and help create a plan for your student’s education this year. Just drop us a line, and we’ll get back to you right away.
